PolyFuel, a project of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, took first place among 11 teams at the final event of the GreenChem Accelerator 2026: Startups program.
The project features a modular automated technology for converting mixed plastic waste into an alkylbenzene fraction — a component used in the production of aviation and automotive fuels — as well as technical carbon, while also enabling additional electricity generation. The technology was developed by a research team from the Department of Automation of Electrotechnical and Mechatronic Complexes at the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management (IEE) of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The project was presented as part of the Global GreenChem Innovation & Network Programme (GGINP) under the auspices of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), where it received the highest score from the Demo Day jury.
At the next stage, the PolyFuel team will represent Ukraine at the Global Demo Day in Vienna in early November. The event will take place as part of Circular Economy & Green Industry (CEGI) Week 2026, UNIDO’s flagship global forum dedicated to accelerating the transition to a circular economy and greener industrial production as drivers of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
