EDAIC examination held at Bogomolets National Medical University for anaesthesiologists

Bogomolets National Medical University Hosts EDAIC Examination for Anaesthesiologists for the Second Time

For the Second Time, Bogomolets National Medical University Hosts the Prestigious International EDAIC Examination for Anaesthesiologists

The first part of one of the most respected international examinations leading to the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (EDAIC) was held at Bogomolets National Medical University (NMU).

The examination, administered by the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC), was held at NMU for the second time. This year, six anaesthesiologists took part in the examination.

EDAIC is an internationally recognized “gold standard” for assessing the professional knowledge of anaesthesiologists. It is administered by the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC).

For Ukrainian interns, residents, and practising doctors, successfully passing EDAIC Part I is an important step towards obtaining the full ESAIC Diploma, joining international professional associations, and expanding opportunities for scientific and clinical training in leading European hospitals.

A key feature of the examination is that it assesses not only factual knowledge but also the understanding of the physiological and pharmacological principles underlying clinical decision-making in accordance with European guidelines.

The EDAIC examination is conducted simultaneously in many countries according to unified international standards.

EDAIC Part I is a written examination consisting of two test papers with 60 questions each.

Paper A covers fundamental subjects, including physiology, pharmacology, anatomy, physics and clinical measurement, and statistics.

Paper B focuses on clinical anaesthesiology, regional anaesthesia, intensive care, internal medicine, and emergency medicine.

After successfully completing Part I, candidates may proceed to the second, oral part of the examination. Only after successfully completing both parts can a candidate receive the full European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care.

Bogomolets National Medical University became an official examination centre of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC). The first examination was held last year following an initiative by NMU Rector Yurii Kuchin and the successful completion of the official accreditation process by the examination committee.

This achievement has significantly strengthened the integration of the Ukrainian medical community into the European professional environment.

Ukrainian anaesthesiologists now have a unique opportunity to demonstrate their professional knowledge according to international standards directly in Ukraine, by taking the EDAIC examination at Bogomolets National Medical University in Kyiv.
