🦾🦿 Prosthetics, Medical Rehabilitation & Occupational Therapy at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
The Educational and Research Laboratory of Prosthetics, Medical Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) provides students with hands-on training in modeling upper and lower limbs and manufacturing prosthetic sockets — technologies widely used in prosthetic centers across Ukraine.
🎓 The laboratory supports practical training for students in:
• Biomedical Engineering
– Applied Mechanics, including specializations in Prosthetics Engineering and Technologies, Medical Engineering Technologies in Prosthetics and Additive Technologies in Prosthetics
– Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
Students also develop practical skills in prosthetic rehabilitation, learning how patients adapt to and use prostheses — an essential stage of rehabilitation after prosthetic fitting.
🔬 Together with the Educational and Innovation Center for Prosthetics and Rehabilitation and the Science Park of Additive Technologies, the laboratory forms part of KPI’s innovative ecosystem, bringing together education, science, technology, medical engineering and veteran support.
💬 Following the laboratory’s opening, a panel discussion explored opportunities for education, internships and employment for veterans and female veterans studying at KPI.
🏢 An inclusive space for veterans is also planned in one of KPI’s student dormitories.
✨ The initiative, including a grant program for veterans pursuing Master’s degrees and the development of inclusive educational infrastructure, is implemented at KPI with the support of Ukrainian product IT company appflame and Genesis for Ukraine.
