After earning your medical degree, it’s time to transform your knowledge into clinical mastery.
The Internship program in “General Medical Practice” at Bogomolets National Medical University (BNMU) offers international graduates a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, professional licensing eligibility, and international clinical competence — all in one of the most respected medical universities in Eastern Europe.
Why Choose BNMU for Your Internship?
- Prestigious Medical University with a Global Reputation
Founded in 1841, Bogomolets National Medical University stands among Ukraine’s most influential centers of medical education and research. Its clinical base includes more than 150 partner hospitals and university clinics across Kyiv, where interns receive real-world experience under the supervision of experienced doctors and professors.
- Primary Specialization – “General Medical Practice”
This internship is the first postgraduate stage for international medical graduates (MD / MBBS) aiming to obtain a Ukrainian medical license or advance to further specialization. During this one-year program, international students have the opportunity to become more familiar with the Ukrainian healthcare system. This postgraduate program is available in English, during which students can improve their level of Ukrainian language skills in order to be able to enter an internship in the future.
The program focuses on:
- Primary and emergency care, diagnostics, and treatment;
- Family medicine and multidisciplinary patient management;
- Preventive medicine and health promotion;
- Clinical communication and ethical medical practice.
By the end of the internship, participants are trained to work as independent general practitioners and are eligible to continue into internship (specialization programs).
- Supervised Clinical Training & Real-Patient Experience
Interns train in university hospitals, multidisciplinary clinics, and city health centers, actively participating in patient care, ward rounds, and medical decision-making. Each intern is assigned a personal supervisor (tutor) — a qualified specialist from BNMU’s teaching hospitals — ensuring continuous mentorship and clinical evaluation.
- Integration with National Health System
BNMU internship programs are developed according to the standards of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, fully aligned with the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” and Order of the Ministry of Health No. 1254 (2023) regulating postgraduate medical training. Graduates receive a Certificate of Internship Completion confirming their qualification as a Doctor of General Medical Practice, recognized across Ukraine and accepted in many countries.
- Internationally Friendly Environment
BNMU has extensive experience training foreign graduates and provides full support throughout the internship process — from invitation issuance and residence-permit assistance to adaptation, accommodation, and academic guidance. The university’s Postgraduate Faculty for Foreign Citizens ensures smooth communication and legal compliance during your stay in Ukraine.
